Sustainability in logistics isn't usually about one big change — it's a series of smaller decisions that add up. Consolidating shipments instead of sending partial loads, choosing routes that avoid unnecessary transfers, and packing cargo efficiently all reduce the environmental footprint of a shipment without adding significant cost.
Mode selection matters too. Sea freight generally has a lower carbon footprint per unit of cargo than air freight, so shipments that aren't time-critical are often better suited to ocean transport — both for cost and for environmental impact.
None of this requires an overhaul of how a business ships. It usually starts with a forwarder asking the right questions — how urgent is this shipment, really, and can it be consolidated with anything else — before defaulting to the fastest option.
